Does Anyone Have Any Experience Of Geothermal?

I looked into this when building a new house last year..I changed my mind as the cost to install it would not be recouped in the savings for a normal home..I decided on wind power.
Gold Wing is obviously not formula with Water Furnace. I purchased my first one in 1986. I had two in a closed loop system heating/cooling a 5600 sq/ft log home w/full basement. I owned it for seven years and had no problems w/the system. I spoke with the company that purchased the home, now a Bed and Breakfast. Both units are still in use and they had no problems with them either. I am now on my sixth Water Furnace system. I have never had an open loop, nor have I ever had a closed loop in a body of water. Although all of these systems could have been in a body of water.
Keep in mind, it is a heat pump, so the heat is cooler than a fossil fuel system but once you get used to that, you’ll love it. I swear by them and many of my friends now have these systems.
1) a nuclear power plant generates_________energythat boils water to produce steam.
2) the spinninggenerator of a nuclear power plant converts ________ energy into electrical energy.
3) Why is nuclear energy considered a nonrenewable resorse?
4) How does a hydroelectric dam change kinetic energy into electrical energy?
5) Wind turbines convert energy of air in to ___________ by turning a generator.
6) the thermal energy caused by the heating of earth’s crust is called__________.
7) some geothermal power plants pump water underground next to hot__________.
organic matter that can be burned to realease energy is called_________.
9) Name one disadvantage of fossil fuels.
10) Why can’t solar energy br used to meet the energy needs of large cities?
11) Why is hydroelectric energy not always a disirable energy resource?
thank you in advance. appropriate answers only. thanks again.
we are thinking about installing a geothermal system, it’s sounds ‘to good to be true’ 65% savings on oil for $13000 (1400 sq ft. home) after government grant. my husband says it would skyrocket our hydro bill. does anyone have a system and what are your experiences please!
I’m looking for links or names of companies that people have dealt with that have the best prices, quality and service. Thanks
The previous answerer knows nothing about geothermal.
Geothermal heat uses loops in the ground to pick up latent heat (50 degrees F) to bring into a heat pump (thermal battery) this then uses a loop into a coil sitting (hydro-air coil) on an air handler (furnace blower) to blow the heat into the living space of the house through standard duct work. There is another method that uses the hot water from the heat pump to heat baseboard or radiant floor as well.
The initial cost is high, but the maintenance and energy cost for the life of the system is fairly low.
Geo-thermal heating (and cooling) anyone here using it? What is the good, the bad, and the ugly about it? I assume the heat exchanger or heat pump must be powered by electricity. Is the investment in Geothermal heating worth the payback?
If so, given our energy problems, seems this should be mandated on all new home construction that can accomodate a geothermal system.
Love to hear your opinions … preferably from those who own one or installs them ….
I don’t know what DIY is and I only have minimal experience with geothermal heat pumps. You may be able to get some answers from geoexchange.com
All the salesmen say it’s great but a few builders are saying it doesn’t come up to power. I’d appreciate any feed back from someone who’s got it fitted.
